"Little Blue Cup"

I bought this cup a few weeks ago on a stop in Oklahoma City on the way to Duncan for the workshop. I just love the shape. I think it will be showing up in many paintings.

"Inside Out"

This is been a busy week, the kids are home and lots of running around to do. Being a painter, mom and wife is a juggling act.

"Sunny"

I love painting still life outdoors, these yellow flowers were growing everywhere around the campground. Again the sun kept coming and gong so I had to wait on it. We can't control everything when plein air painting but that makes me work looser and faster.

"Clear Blue"

The water looked so inviting, but sooo cold.

"Blue Tent"

I had more time today since most of the scene is in shadow. The first thing I did was establish the light on the ground and tent because that would be the first thing to change. A man camped next to us asked me how I know when to stop painting, there are lots of different answers to that when I think about it. The light is completly changed, it looks like I want, it's hopless, , too cold, too hot, in this case everyone wanted to know where dinner was.

"Fast Sunset"

I literally painted this in 5 minutes. That's how fast the sun dissapeared behind a cloud. It's not pretty but it captures a moment.

"Flip Flops"

The sun kept going behind the clouds today so I did a quick study of my flip flops. Simple subject, interesting shapes.

"In Shadow"

One more painting from the workshop last week. We will be going camping tommorrow. So maybe I can practice what I learned last week. The kids are out of school so I have to adjust to a different schedule for the next couple of months.

"Tipsy"

Inspiration isn't hard to find this time of year.

I kept putting the flower in the glass and it kept falling out so I went with it. It makes a better composition.

"Sunlit"

The second day of the workshop we drove an hour west to the Witchita mountains, how pretty, they were covered with yellow flowers. I could have painted here for a week. We arrived at a river with boulders and bright sun. Painting plein air is hard work, carrying all the equipment, you really have to scale back on what is absolutley nesessary. Ask me how I know. Ugh!

"Rose Cottage"

The first day of the workshop we were at a beautiful B and B. Gay did a demo, wow. There were small cottages behind the main house. I painted Rose Cottage. I had to stand in the sun so my umbrella came in handy. Did you know you can still get a sunburn under an umbrella? I think I will spray paint the inside of the umbrella black to help with this problem.

"Groovy Lemon"

Today's painting has the feel of summer, the fabric reminds me of something I wore as a halter top, back in the day. I have my art supplies packed and Iam getting excited about getting away for a few days. I like the atmosphere of a good workshop, meeting people, exchanging ideas and information and mostly watching a really good painter work. Have a great week!

"Rainbow Sherbert"

These colors are so Spring like they remind me of sherbert. I will be going to Duncan, OK Wednesday morning. I will be attending an outdoor painting workshop with Gay Faulkenberry. So maybe I will have some landscapes to post when I get back.

"A Fan of Peas"

I'm not completly happy with this one. I guess that's the way it goes. I got too fussy with it and it lost it's freshness. So, I'll try again tommorrow.

"Just Ducky"

The squash bin at the grocery store looked like it was filled with ducks. Ok maybe it's just the artist in me, but I had to laugh. Then I stood there trying to pick out the perfect squash/duck to paint. I hope no one was watching, they would think I'm nuts.
